Dr. Marie Kufus was born and raised in the Columbia River Gorge, from Vancouver to Mill A, Washington for childhood, and Stevenson, Washinton for high school. She had many, many cats, a couple dogs, and a rabbit growing up, and never didn’t want to be a veterinarian. She went to Washington State University, Pullman for both her undergraduate in Zoology and her DVM degree while volunteering at several veterinary hospitals; she even held a couple internships at veterinary clinics. Before coming to East Padden Animal Hospital, Dr. Kufus worked at the Oregon National Primate Research Center, and her favorite aspects of veterinary medicine are neurology cases and helping pets live long, happy, and pain-free lives with their owners.
Having married her college sweetheart, Nick, Dr. Kufus enjoys spending her time playing intense games of Cribbage and Dominoes with her husband, as well as visiting with nearby nieces and nephews on both sides of the family. While not particularly a cat person, Dr. Kufus and her husband own two cats: Bruce, and Bain the tripod, whom she loves snuggling with! As a Pacific Northwest native, she also enjoys hiking, baking, rock climbing, and watching “The Bachelor” (something she is not proud of).
